ISRAEL-PALESTINE VIOLENCE: NIGERIAN FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY ISSUES OFFICIAL STATEMENT
The Nigerian Government through its Foreign Affairs Ministry has appealed to the the two Middle East countries of Palestine and Irael currently at loggerhead with each other to give peace a chance.
In a press release signed by the Ministry's spokesperson, Ferdinand Nwonye and made available at its official Twitter handle @NigeriaMFA, the two countries are called upon to embrace a ceasefire and safeguard citizens rights for a dignified and peaceful living.
"OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE DEVELOPMENT IN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to state that the Federal Government if Nigeria is watching with great concern, the unfolding development in Israel and the State of Palestine and urged both parties to see reason and de-escalate the hostilities.
"The Nigerian Government further urges the two parties to remain Committed to the two-state solution and, in the meantime, guarantee the rights of all citizens to live in peace and digity", the statement read in part.
Violence had on 6 May, 2021 broken out in the city of Jerusalem between Jewish and Palestinian protesters over the former's planned eviction of palestinian residents in Sheikh, Jarrah, a neighborhood of East Jerusalem, a development that has since led to insense exchange of firepower between the two countries with scores of lives already lost.
